Pump Organ [Sep. 4th, 2007|08:08 pm]

I got this today from my church. Terry (who runs the sound with me) showed it to me a few month ago. I finally had the courage to ask the pastor about it. I went over to church after work, and tried it out. Not only does it still work, but I played it against the piano and it's totally in tune. It's a pump organ, so I think air is just forced through reeds, and I believe it can't go out of tune. It fold up, which is how it's been for more than 20 years, and I had to figure out how to unfold it. When unfolded the keys are just above the knees when your seated at it. All you need to do it "pump" the pedals and press the keys. There are two knee "pedals" as well. The left knee pedal adds a higher tone, almost like an extra octave. The right knee pedal opens the damper behind the keyboard increasing the volume. WEEEEEE!

Also, I feel this must be said. On monday while riding my bike out to my Mom's house I accidentally ran over a snake. I saw it just before I hit it, so I didn't have time to react. I feel terrible. It made a thump thump noise when my bike tires ran over its little thin body.

Dear Snake,

I am sorry for riding over you. Your very small, and I didn't see you. I hope your ok, but if not I want you to know I am sorry. I saw you slither way, is that good? Stay out of the road next time.

Another timwarrenmusic show. [Oct. 18th, 2006|10:22 pm]
Hi friends. I am playing yet another (well, only my third this year) solo set as timwarrenmusic. Its at Space vs. Time (Your Input Here) as usual-470 Market st. The price is 5 dollars, although I am beginning to think that 5 dollars is to much, and that is/has been a reason why nobody ever shows up. Anyway, I will also be performing in one of my many side projects, the improvising Fantastic Half-Plastic Band. I believe the band Spectral Mornings is the headliner. I would love it for you to come to my show! Please? I'm guessing you should get there around 8:30, I always open so don't be late. Please?

random thoughts that mean nothing really.

-I want to ride my bike so bad, but the weather is just too HOT!
-I'm glad I don't have the stomach cancer.
-If I made a film, I think the music/soundtrack would be really good, but the directing...so so.
-If I never move to a big city, does that mean I failed as an adult?
-driving's overrated.
-bike riding is underrated.
-my style of photography is very similar to Lee Friedlander.
-I wished I lived downtown again.
-I would like to wear a tie to work everyday.
-I hate writing with a pencil, can't stand it. I only use pens, or preferably, a sharpie.
-Chicago? Yes. New York? mmmm probably not. Mikwaukee, Cleveland, You bet!
-I saw three wild turkeys sunday. I stopped and watched.
-I wonder what I would look like with "wes anderson' glasses.
-Fielding is a great first name for a son. Yes, Fielding.

I had more the other day, but I'm tired.

Women are like the woods, mysterious and full of wolves. [Apr. 27th, 2006|05:13 am]
Eric Smith and I went to visit his brother, Scott, at work today. Scott works for Trillian Haven Farms in Jenison, an organic farm. We helped out with the planting today, we planted somesort of lettuce. That was the first time I ever did anything like that. We also help gather eggs from the chicken coop. I bet they had around 50 eggs in the bucket. Apparently I can go there whenever I want and help out, and for pay get straight-from-the-earth veggies and eggs.
I am thinking about doing this, like every monday and wednesday or something like that. I have never worked on a farm and have no idea what to do, but everyone seems to be cool, and there are plenty of things to keep me moving. Check out my farm pics.

CHICKENS!

[mood |zoo-y]

I went to the John Ball Zoo by myself today. I heard that admition is free through february and today was such a beautiful day so.... I had not been to the Zoo during the winter (but have been at night) and you can really see why it's free. All of the "hot" animals are not around like the monkey's and wilderbeasts and so forth. It was fun to guess which animals would be outside still. I correctly answered Tiger, Snow Leopard, and the Puma (mountain lion). Some creatures that were outside and active that I wasn't expecting were the wolverine, otters, owls, and the goats and sheep.

I wanted a T-shirt with the standard JB Zoo logo on it so I went hunting for one in the gift shop. They had about 30 shirts and sweat shirts with animals and the words John Ball Zoo on them, but they all looked kind of lame. It seems to me that the most obvious shirt design would be just the logo, the name of the zoo, and Grand Rapids, MI printed on the shirt. I'm not a zooligist, so what do I know.

Here are some pics I took at the Zoo!

WHY ISN'T THIS A SHIRT?

Jeff Tweedy is a nice guy [Nov. 11th, 2005|02:43 pm]
Chris and Sarah are engaged!
Chris had an idea to involve Jeff Tweedy in his asking Sarah to marry him. Chris wanted Jeff to say "Congradulations to Chris and Sarah on there engagment" sometime during the concert, then at that point Chris would ask Sarah to marry him. So we went to Calvin at around noon and found Glenn the drummer, we told him our plan, and he had us talk the tour manager. The tour manager talked to Jeff and told us he would make sure Jeff didn't forget. Jeff finally said something when he came back out for the encore, before he played any songs he said he wanted to take this opprotunity to congadulate Chris and Sarah. He asked where they were and and had to cover his eyes from the spot light to see them. Everyone started clapping and a few people around us said congrats to them as well. Then Chris yelled "Thank You Mr. Tweedy". After the concert we hung out by the tour bus and finally met Jeff. Chris and Sarah introduced themselves and he signed a poster for them. Chris, Sarah, Kat, and myself all thanked Jeff and Glenn for there help. What a bunch of nice guys. Here are some pics.

Me with WILCO drummer Glenn.

Me with one of my musical hero's Jeff Tweedy.

For Real.......to Reel [Nov. 6th, 2005|04:05 pm]
My Father has been doing some sorting of things at home and came across and old AKAI Reel to Reel tape deck. He asked if I wanted it ,and after he told me you can record with it, I happily took it home. It records slow he tells me, but can probably be fixed for cheap, and reel to reel tape is super cheap on ebay. It has RCA inputs and outputs on the back, perfect for recording from a mixer.
Here are a couple pics of the AKAI GX 230D.

Formicadyke [Nov. 5th, 2005|09:44 am]
Uuugg. Here I am at work, again, for the third weekend in a row. Booooo. What to write, what to write?
Things have been pretty uneventful lately. Alex Gray invited me to his GVSU radio program and he let me play a couple songs.
It was hallowe'en and we played alot of themed music. I played Frankenstein by Edgar Winter (for you Ben!) and If You Shoot the Head You Kill the Ghoul by Jeffrey Lewis.

I'm going over to my Dad's house after work to move around some cars, them watch the Pistons. Whooohoo. That should be fun and relaxing. I want to go see the Weatherman, but I am aggressivly saving money right now. If I didn't already brag about this I'm doing it now because I saw the Weatherman being filmed in Chicago last summer (even though the film takes place in the winter months, I guess). I took some pics which I should post. Maybe I'll do that when I get home to my scanner.

How do you add a picture on this thing [Apr. 29th, 2005|02:28 pm]
If I wanted to add a picture on LJ from the web, or a digital photo I took my self, how would I do that? I heard you have to do a little HTML, but I don't know how to do that either. Is this something that can be explained in a comment or should I be learned in person? Whaaaaaaaa!
